No, sorry. I should have included the follow-up. The Wayne County Board of Canvassers’ deadlock was broken. I just thought it notable that the Republican chair of the board, Monica Palmer, very specifically refused to certify Detroit in a brazen act of overt racism.

The June 2001 list indicated that 100 computer keyboards had to be replaced because the “W” keys had been removed.
( there was a whole big story at the time on how clinton staffers destroyed the whitehouse, but the gao report only seems to list the keyboard prank as being real. )

if you read that gao report, it actually lists the keyboards as a real thing – unlike the other alleged damage. the 100 keyboards may be a high estimate though

In February 2002, the OA associate director for information systems and technology said that her memory regarding this matter was not as good as when we interviewed her in June 2001, but she estimated that 100 keyboards had to be replaced at the end of the Clinton administration and that one-third of them were missing the “W” key or were intentionally damaged in some way. She also said that of those 100 keyboards, about one-third to one–half would have been replaced anyway because of their age.
that said, the gao also estimated the cost of replacing the keyboards at $75 a pop and who knew that keyboards were so expensive? and that you needed to replace the whole keyboard because of it.
( edit: if i were a clinton staffer, i would probably have removed the w. it’s a good, harmless prank. )
