I have indeed heard an opossum growl, but it was a full-grown adult and not a cute little pup. It was also at the top of my steps at eye-level and cornered, so there was a bit more urgency behind the growl. It was definitely not cute.

This has happened to me, and shitfuck is it unsettling! But to be fair, I spooked him when he was snagging some free cat food off the side deck. Shock for us both!

It’s videos like that that terrify my neighbors into wanting to murder all the cute critters in the neighborhood.
I’ve heard them hiss before, not growl.
