Hey, did you hear that Adam Ganser and I are starting a new podcast about the films of David Lynch?? It’s called LynchPins. And you can get EXTENDED episodes a WEEK early on Nebula. The video podcast drops on YouTube and major podcast platforms on Tuesday, April 23rd. But Nebula subscribers can watch or listen on April 16th. The LynchPins trailer is up on Nebula right now if you want a tease. Check the pinned comment for links to subscribe. Episode 1 covers The Straight Story (1999) so if you haven’t seen it, check it out! And if you haven’t seen it in a long time, now’s your chance to do a rewatch! Every month, we’ll cover a different Lynch film, from his least-Lynchian to his most “Lynch” movie. Whether you’ve found his work hard to get into and you want to better understand the enigmatic auteur, or you’re a super fan, join us!
Maggie Mae Fish is doing a whole podcast about David Lynch!!!
If people haven’t seen her videos on Twin Peaks, they are great, as are her other videos…
Sixteenth Minute (of Fame) is a weekly show from Jamie Loftus that takes a closer look at the internet’s main characters – one part reported, one part interviews, and one part Jamie collapsing her permanently internet-damaged brain. Whether it’s an enduring meme or a dreaded Character of the Day distinction, it’s the kind of notoriety that often results in little money, unwarranted attention, and a confusing blurred line of consent. What do you do when you get more attention and judgement than any one person is built to handle? The Sixteenth Minute of Fame is the place where we figure that out, putting people in the context of the moment they’ve been frozen inside of.

Humor-adjacent medical podcast hosted by a GI doc [Kaveh Hoda] and friends. Putting the “fun” back in mfunedicine.
I spent a great 45 minutes listening to Rebacca Solnit read her own essay about awful changes in her hometown of San Francisco, and the spiraling outward of tech bro delusion from it that threatens us all.

The excellent essay she reads:
Listening to the podcast now… she has a lovely, soothing voice…
If you’re looking for a film nerd podcast and miss the commentary tracks, Mike Flanagan has come to the rescue.
I listen to a fair number of TTRPG podcasts, especially Call of Cthulhu-related ones. Recommendations:
- Friends at the Table, a long-running series of different games, mostly GM’ed by Austin Walker. They’ve done fantasy, science-fiction, with Indie games. Truly excellent role-playing, music composed by one of the players. Funny, sometimes deeply moving, always thoughtful, even when they are being humorous. If you want incredibly sophisticated games that you’ll think about long after the podcast is over, this is for you.
- Ain’t Slayed Nobody, which started out as a Wild-West Call of Cthulhu campaign, but has done many other shorter games as well. including a Blade Runner series and one of the absolute funniest Call of Cthulhu scenarios I’ve ever listened to (multiple times): “Factory Records”, with an absolutely completely dysfunctional band trying to record in an abandoned factory. If you like your horror with a touch of humor, it’s a good pick.
- The Good Friends of Jackson Elias, nominally a Call of Cthulhu podcast, but it branches out in to movies, books and many other gaming systems as well. Smart hosts, great discussions.
- The Incomparable Game Show: multiple board games, played on air by folks who are good friends and all pretty funny. I like to play this one if I’m having trouble sleeping – it’s not boring, just comfortable.
- On Taking Pictures: two friends, one a former photographer turned artist, and another photographer still working in the field, talk about everything from tools to processes, and often grapple with the questions of what does it mean to be an artist now. Though-provoking and fun. And they really like each other.
- Strong Songs: the host goes deep on great music, to the point of working out and playing the parts himself to understand the songs better. In the process, he often finds new and interesting things happening in the track. A little music theory, and a lot of hard work mastering ALL the instruments – or bringing in friends as needed. Have learned a ton from this podcast.
- Literature and History – a survey of Western Literature from about as far back as you can go. in 103 episodes, we’ve gotten from cuneiform tablets to not quite 400 AD. The host goes deep and does a fantastic job of showing why the things he talks about are interesting and worth knowing and studying. He doesn’t hesitate to have strong opinions. Another tremendously informative podcast, sadly on hiatus at the moment. Did I mention there were songs?
This is a very interesting history of Rickwood field in Birmingham…
Hosted by Roy Wood Jr.!
Weird Little Guys is a weekly show about the worst people you’ve never heard of, taking you beyond the headlines to get to know the race warriors and aspiring terrorists trying to unravel the fabric of our society. Weaving together the origin stories of modern American white supremacist groups and the crimes that land their members in court, independent journalist Molly Conger exposes the monsters for what they really are - some weird guy. Whether they’re conspiring to build bombs or serving swastika shaped cookies at a dinner party, the weird little guys trying to destroy America are a little less scary with their masks off.
First ep:
Used to go see the Barons play there regularly when I was a kid in the 80’s. Didn’t appreciate its history until fairly recently. Thanks for the recommendation!
