I stumbled across the very last Blockbuster in my city in 2011. I delicately asked if they weren’t a little concerned about their future. Whoever was in charge that day assured me that, since they were the only one left, people would flock from all over the (rather large) city just to rent from Blockbuster. Wonder how long they lasted.
Good thing libraries still exist.
The owner of the independent rental store that I was a member was always said that he hated Blockbuster, but if they go then we do too. He tried to avoid the inevitable and started selling comics too (something else he knew about and love) but it was too late and his store closed about six months before Blockbuster closed their last stores in Britain.
With the library so well stocked these days and of course I live in the city of Scarecrow Video so I had quit going to Blockbuster long before it vanished.
I’ve seen a Family Video store move out of its original building and across the street into the former Blockbuster store.
