Don’t worry, a new one will form in a couple million years
By next summer, got it.
I didn’t see an article link, so here’s one with a picture showing the post collapse picture.
Tragic
It’s a bit odd that the park rangers are talking about protecting the natural wonders surrounding Lake Powell-an artificial lake created by the building of The Glen Canyon Dam.
I’m not sure I would call this “Utah’s Double Arch” this is decidedly a less famous double arch than Double Arch in Arches National Park which gained fame as the location a young Indiana Jones discovered the Cross of Coronado at in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Tragic to be sure, but erosion and time happen but I think people are getting confused that it’s not the arch they are thinking of. I like names like the Crescent Pool or Hole in the Roof.
Thank you! I hate when there’s an inherently visual article talking about how something changed and they don’t have before and after pictures.
then again the ‘after’ pic is not especially useful either.
It’s also easy to imagine that the huge variations in water levels in that artificial lake contributes to the erosion and collapse of some of those rock formations.
Agreed, but after hitting a dozen sites, they all link back to this article/picture.
I believe the side fell off, based on what it looks like.
Not the front?
