Indictment released
Looks pretty damning.
Indictment released
Looks pretty damning.
Just starting to look through it but this bit stands out:
As usual…it’s not just Trump possessing classified materials when he shouldn’t have; it’s his actions by actively flaunting security protocols by showing them to others and deliberately evading attempts to return these materials to the National Archives as required by law.
Not that these details will make a damn bit of difference to MAGAts who insist that Biden and Hillary did the exact same thing as Trump but weren’t prosecuted.
Did you forget Kissinger?
The same thing was said about indictment…until he was…twice, so far.
But that is registered Republicans, not the MAGA faithful. And, let’s be honest, what percentage of that remaining 10-12% can successfully navigate jury duty?
And impeachment… again, twice so far.
Yes.
And.
ETA:
And fergoodnesssakes let the young voters vote!
And fight gerrymandering!
I think that this would only be under GA law, as that’s Ms. Willis’ jurisdiction, as she’s the AG for Fulton Co. But that will make a case on the federal level more likely, if she indicts and gets an conviction, especially since some of the latest news is that she was planning to look across state lines for evidence…
That sounds awesome…
And it rests on interpretation, too. This is something that’s not been tested thus far, so this is looking like it could be an opportunity to codify how this would work… This is why the constitution should be considered a living document rather than a dead one.
Nullification is a possibility in a jury trial of course… But a hung jury means that they can try again, yeah?
I doubt that type of condition would be offered. It would come across as if the entire thing was just a political persecution to keep him out of office again. The prosecutors are smarter than that and wouldn’t do anything to create that perception. Plus, it’s not really a solution/punishment/contrition for having done the wrongs to begin with.
Some of the GOP is already pretending the entire thing is a political attack. An offer to put that in a plea deal would make that sound truthful.
He could offer it as a suggestion, but that’s unlikely and I don’t think they would want to accept it even that way.
Yeah, but it’s already going to be very difficult to get this trial to a jury before the next election if Trump’s team tries to drag it out. (And they will) It’s basically impossible that there would be time for a second jury trial before then, even of the DOJ decided to retry the case, which is never guaranteed.
Fingers crossed that the first jury does its job.
Well, then, let’s see what happens when a MAGAt is sequestered with sensible people, real evidence, and no Fox news to remind them of their faith or make up false explanations for them.
She should have another version:
LOCK HIM UP
I hope he’s right. Although he talks about the”doom and gloom” people as if they’re somehow masochistically happy if justice fails because it proves them right. Personally I feel like it’s just a self defense mechanism because we’ve been disappointed so many times. But I desperately hope trump sees real justice. I’ll be dancing in the streets if he sees justice. ( and I’m glad that unlike in a popular election, public pessimism or opinion in general has extremely little bearing on these events)
TBH, it has genuinely often felt like that’s how the perpetual Schleprocks and Eeyores seem to think when engaging them in discourse; it’s like they actively want the worst to happen, just so they can be ‘proven correct.’
I would agree, were it not so ceaseless and unrelenting on the part of some folks. That’s not just ‘being pragmatic’ or “a realist” - it’s defeatist and it often quickly turns into energy leeching.
Fuck that noise.
And the hell of it is that I’m no ‘Pollyanna,’ my damn self;
I’m naturally cynical, so finding myself playing the role of ‘cheerleader’ in the face of all the fuckery is one of the more bizarre aspects of living in this twisted ass timeline.
It’s not like he reads or does research
I guess he could be paying somebody to ghost-write another book for him, but really it doesn’t seem like there was any reason for him to bother taking all that stuff with him except that he planned to sell it, or send it to Moscow
