Wow Florida conservatives must be in a terrible shape if they got offended by a Colin Powell poster

And this happened in a white teacher’s classroom. I can’t even.

This is the Republican playbook:
Claim something is wrong with schools
teachers quit because it has become so terrible for them
the state lowers the qualifications for teachers
schools actually start to fail because of unqualified teachers
politicians use that as an excuse to take money from public schools and give it to private schools.

At what age is it appropriate to let kids know that there are Black heroes? I will go out on a limb here and imagine that pictures of Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln are still OK. (Well, ok, maybe not Lincoln, but…)

I agree. And they won’t be regular everyday private schools, they’ll be private schools that teach their Christofascist ideology. The next generation of Republicans won’t just come out of thin air, they need to be molded, with taxpayer dollars if possible.

I expect we’ll see a lot more cases about states redirecting public school money to religious schools; Carson vs Makin is just the start.

Whoever claimed the posters were removed for any reason (other than the honest admission that “we were defending a racist employee”) needs a Title VI claim of discrimination filed against them. The SPLC should be able to help with that, if they aren’t already on it.

Edited, because defending a racist for any reason is the definition of systemic racism.

I’m sick of the republican governor move of just carelessly wrecking a state so they can give the presidential primary a shot.

Maybe replace with posters of “Someone’s yearnin’ for a burnin’ Sherman”

And by quitting, he makes the school MORE racist.

The correct move is to go public, get fired, live off the settlement, and see if change is made, if only to prevent more settlements.

George Washington Carver? Back in the Nasty 50s, Carver was the only Black scientist mentioned in our lily-white school history books. This fact led many of us to believe that he was the only Black scientist in history. Maybe it was connection to the peanut industry that allowed Carver to sneak into schoolbooks–always in a single paragraph, of course, and never with any context.

I’m not sure second-guessing someone who takes a brave and principled stance against racist policies from the comfort of your keyboard is the great look you think it is.

That would certainly be a correct move. But not the only one. Especially if you can’t get another job after being fired and don’t have the resources to get yourself and your family through several long years of court proceedings.

Did you miss the sarcasm tag or did you mean that bullshit?

A friend in admissions once told me that a surprising number of college admissions essays are written about him. It’s so easy to spot the value of representation and how large an impact even the slightest amount can make and yet a picture on the wall is too much for these racist pricks.

A variation on their overall playbook of defunding government to make it fail, thus warranting further defunding because “government is failing”. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy cycle leading to their ultimate goal of oligarchical feudalism. That plan is currently derailed because they let actual fascists take over their party. Whoever wins, we all lose.

Winner winner, chicken dinner!

It’s also easier to control the curriculum in a private school too.

Republicans tend to not notice what the next step is, which they will hate.

left-wing activists start their own schools and “radicalise” the children by teaching them what the right wing won’t.

And historically it has been socialists, anarchists and marxists who do this, not Democrats. That’s why state run schools used to be supported by the right.

Age appropriate images approved for school classrooms in Flordia have been determined to be; Jesus Chris (white euro-centrist version, the only true version), Donald Trump, and Nathan Bedford Forrest.
