“you can’t just do whatever you want” is what I would expect. Taking something upon yourself sounds more like a chore than something fun.

The fun part being that “fesse” (from Latin fissa, same root as “fission” for example) originally meant the butt crack, not a butt cheek. I don’t know how it drifted that way.
