It’s usually a bullshit excuse made by garbage-ass people who are bummed out that it’s no longer ‘cool’ to punch down or to be a dick to other people who have less privilege than they do.

And the dumb this is it still is cool with millions and millions of people. Right now people are making careers out of complaining about women, Muslims, or any other marginalized group we can imagine that are supposed protected by the “PC” crowd.
It’s just that the people who it isn’t cool with are speaking up in a way that they couldn’t before.
People love to mentally invert the power structure to play victim.
