SDP’s worry

Within Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Social Democratic Party (SDP), there is growing frustration that instead of public discussion about the party’s policies, the focus is on the prime minister’s drug test, nightlife, and party photos, Helsingin Sanomat reports.

Several members of Marin’s party spoke to HS on condition of anonymity as they did not want to comment publicly on their leader’s activities.

According to HS, some interviewees were particularly concerned that Marin did not seem to learn from last year’s events and criticisms, with a few saying it raises big questions about her judgement.

Yle and Seiska magazine reported last October that Marin and her entourage had attended a concert in September. Marin gathered a group of artists, their friends, and acquaintances after the event, and they left in five taxis in the early hours of the morning to continue their party at her Kesäranta residence. When the guests arrived at the residence, their personal details were not checked.

Later, Marin posted a picture on her Instagram account in response to criticism of the incident. The picture was accompanied by lyrics from the song Boomer by singer Benjamin Peltonen, with the photo caption reading: “Hey boom-boom-boomer, stay calm, be cool.”

In spite of all the criticism, Marin has many positive attributes, according to the sources interviewed by HS.

One party official described her as an amazingly well-performing, analytical, and pressure-resistant prime minister.

However, another party member told the paper that when voters get the impression that Marin’s just having fun and not glued to the phone in her office, it may also affect their vote.

Many interviewees also said they believe Marin had changed over the last couple of years as a result of the pressure she has faced as premier, combined with her rapid rise to global stardom.

Smith had denied a 17-year-old seeking an abortion without parental consent in January this year on the basis that her grades were low and that she lacked “intelligence or credibility,” and was therefore not mature enough to get an abortion. An appeals court later overturned his ruling.

Jacobs did not directly criticize Smith over his decision (Florida bars judicial candidates from making public statements on legal issues), but she has shared posts on Facebook regarding the ruling

the local affiliate has some more info:

The entire [department] resigned citing the work environment… Kenly Mayor Herbert Tooie Hales told CBS 17 while the investigation did not find there was a toxic work environment, Town Manager Justine Jones was terminated because it was the “best way to move forward for the town.”

CBS 17 asked Hales if people in Kenly will ever get an answer on what caused the police department to resign. “That’s a good question, but you know without getting into he said she said, sometimes it’s hard to get to the answer.”

hint: it was the racism cough cough

This is why city managers usually have contracts and higher salaries. The capriciousness of elective officials makes it very difficult to do their jobs.

I hope she contacts a lawyer.
