The next derailment ‘could be cataclysmic’
Thanks for underplaying this, journalists. It’s already pretty fucking cataclysmic.
A plume of Phosgene and Hydrogen Chloride is really bad news for anyone who is downwind (Like, perhaps the entire city of Pittsburgh which is not far from the site of this accident).
Phosgene was used as a chemical weapon in WW1, and it will poison and choke anyone caught breathing it in, and because it is heavy, it will creep across the landscape, and accumulate in any low-lying areas or basements.
Hydrogen Chloride will turn to Hydrochloric acid whenever it encounters water, for example in the lungs and airways of anyone who breaths it in. If it gets into the clouds or waterways it will acidify them too, causing severe acid rain over a wide area .

I get the sense that bullying as a problem in our schools has not remotely improved (and maybe has gotten worse since I was young, thanks to social media). And schools siding with the bullies (who are often from “good” families, etc), and against the victims (who are often either from marginalized groups, or are just weird kids) continues, too. It’s depressing that we still have this pattern in our society… and we wonder how we got a right wing political party that thrives on bullying and violence… Well, just look at what we let happen to kids in our schools who just don’t fit in for whatever reason! Of course, lots of kids get the message that being a bully is not only okay, it’s embraced!
