They went to a sex gathering during the 21st century’s first respiratory-transmitted viral pandemic.
New Orleans should have not allowed this gathering, as it violates all the basic mitigation measures that we all must use to prevent COVID-19 transmission.
They went knowingly into a hazardous situation - and chose to take the risk, regardless of the threat to themselves or others. Now, who knows how many others have been infected because of these foolish people.

Wow, if only human beings had some sort of cognitive ability to foresee the likely consequences of their actions, given a known set of circumstances. Oh well.

Yes, you are, of course, correct. What I was trying to get at is that it seems he lacks the basic cognitive abilities common to sentient beings. (And not just sentient beings, come to think about it.) Which I guess just would make him a regular ol’ zombie, not the philosophical kind.
