David old friend we miss you.

[Chorus]
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing, will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be heroes, just for one day

[Verse 1]
And you, you can be mean
And I, I’ll drink all the time
Cause we’re lovers, and that is a fact
Yes we’re lovers, and that is that

[Refrain]
Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day
We can be heroes, forever and ever
What d’you say?

[Verse 2]
I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim

[Refrain]
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, forever and ever
Oh we can be heroes, just for one day

[Chorus]
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing, will drive them away
We can be heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day

[Verse 3]
I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns, shot above our heads (over our heads)
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall (nothing could fall)

[Refrain]
And the shame, was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, forever and ever
Then we could be heroes, just for one day
We can be heroes, we can be heroes
We can be heroes, just for one day
We can be heroes

[Outro]
We’re nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we’re lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer, just for one day
Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh, just for one day

I’ve really despised most covers of this song.
This one works.

i always love covers, even faithful ones, because they at least let the band & singer shine some of their own style on things, but… this song was done perfectly by Bowie, and nothing else has really come close ever since. : \

I’m mostly snarky on this BSS, but I have to tell you that made me tear up. Damn good cover

Random factoid: Dave Grahan joined Depeche Mode after they heard him cover Heroes way back in 1980.

I didn’t have a copy of the Heroes album for the longest time, but had Sound and Vision. That means I didn’t know the words to the song Heroes in English. In turn, this affects my favored cover of the song:

I’m a fan of both Depeche Mode and David Bowie, but this wasn’t really necessary, was it? It wasn’t bad, per se, but it wasn’t good either. Eminently forgettable.
