Former YoungLife members allege sexual misconduct

You know, we’ve been hearing about pedophile priests in the Catholic church for forever, but you know the same problems are just as bad in every other denomination of church. I’ve been waiting for some sort of watershed moment where every other church needs to have a reckoning with it too, hopefully its coming. These people are attracted to places that give them access and positions of authority. It amazes me how people I know in real life seem to automatically trust people because they are “from church”. Like, “leave my kids with them for a few days” kind of trust.

its sexual assault policy, which prohibits employees and volunteers from reporting misconduct to the police without executive approval.

Completely unenforceable, surely? Ok, they could kick you out of the organisation, I suppose. But, really? They think this is a good look?

I’d absolutely believe it but I won’t say why.

Illegal in my state. In fact, if you carefully read the code, intimidating a witness or victim of a crime is one of the triggers that allows someone to record your telephone calls in spite of the two party consent law.

I absolutely believe the things these folks are saying, it’s a horrid organization and it’s leaders should get in the ground with Jeffrey Epstein.

The catholics do seem to have a propensity, though.

Because abstinence from sex, porn and masturbation is known to be extremely successful as a sexual craving management technique…

Some said they were asked to forgive their alleged assailants, while others said they were cast out by those they considered friends and role models.

That’s damn near the definition of a cult.

I’m really not so surprised. These guys used to come to my junior high school in the very late 70s and wee 80s before school began, when they had a captive audience of kids like myself who arrived early because our parents couldn’t drop us off any later.
I remember the time they had a school assembly and a motivational film with an absolutely rocking soundtrack, and when my friend and I went to another showing at a local church, it was a longer version with all the preaching. We noped out of that real quick.

YoungLife is deception at every turn, like those fake $20 bills with bible verses people stick into their server’s tip.

They think they already have their ticket to heaven. They don’t care.

WTAF??? This just cannot be legal, can it? Is it possible to outlaw reporting criminal activities by just making a policy?

Gives me the collywobbles that does.

Yeah, like Jim Cunningham.

Oh, certainly being one huge organization instead of lots of smaller ones, the Catholic church is always going to be the worst offender. But I do think there’s been lots of finger pointing at the Catholics from people ignoring the predators in their own churches, and I’m ready to see them all go down.

Lots of the Protestant organizations doing the finger pointing could do from a bible lesson in “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” The Jesus of the Gospels did not take kindly to hypocrites.

Even the people i know who were in Young Life, and who liked being there and said it was a lot of fun, admit it’s a cult.

I know recovering Catholics that say the same.

tax every one of em. tax the churches, synogogues, mosques. Tax the mega-preachers, tax the income, tax the land.

THEN! begin a system of licensing, yeah, just like for daycare, schools, driving, etc

you wanna be a preacher? pass a test - pay a fee.

I’ve always thought of Young Life as a cult. Perfectly normal people from my high school would go away on Young Life weekends and come back completely different people. They became unbearable to hang out with after their conversion and christ the lord wasn’t my personal savior so they couldn’t really hang with me either. I must’ve lost at least 20 friends to Young Life. Young Life was very popular in my publically funded high school.
