Republicans or deatheaters.
What this fails to understand is we don’t stay home for our selves nor do we wear the masks for ourselves - we do it for those more likely to die from the spread. It is one thing to take your life into your hands, it is very much another to take the life of someone else into your hands. I can make a bargain that I will take a risk but I will be damned if I will put another at risk for my decision.
Nope. As of this evening, the Canadian infection rate is 44% of the US rate per capita, the Canadian mortality rate is 51% of the US rate per capita and the Canadian recovered rate is 116% of the US rate per capita. The Canadian active case rate is 28% of the American rate per capita.
The only reason our reported mortality rate is as high as 51% of the US rate is due to deliberate underreporting in Florida, Texas and other Republican states, plus at-home deaths not factored into American COVID-19 totals. Canada’s per capita mortality rate is probably closer to 30% of the true American figure.
The U.S. is 13th worst and Canada is 18th worst, on a list with hundreds of entries, and three of the “countries” in between are Luxembourg, Montserrat and the Channel Islands
Stop re-directing. We have our own shit to deal with and we will.
You guys? Sort out your damn house. I’m not just talking about your stupid president and your terrifying disease response. I’m talking about your garbage political scene, your cultish devotion to making the worst possible choices always, your healthcare, your income inequality, your global bloodlust, your handgun exports— just goddamn stop it. Fix your shit and stop fucking up every part of the world that you spill into.
You are the shitty neighbours next door who launch fireworks at 3AM and toss your cigarette butts on our lawn. Stop making excuses and organize yourselves to fix it. The rest of the world is losing goddamn patience with you.
He has a valid point.
My ancestors were kidnapped and forced to toil this land for free, but I have no real power or any say-so over whatsoever anything that happens here… despite the fact that I do all the “right” things; I work hard, pay my taxes and vote for whichever rich White politician that I think will do the least amount of harm while in office.
That blame-game bullshit not only helps no one and solves no problems… it’s insulting a/f to all the Indigenous people, all the Latinx people, all the Black people, all the LGBTQ+ people, all POC and anyone else in America who is being held hostage to this insanity.
Sure. maybe I’ll die and improve things in places better than where I live…
I don’t know how to make it clear that things have to be really, really, really bad to make Canada this angry.
You think you’re angry???
Dude…
For the last four years it feels like I’ve had the Incredible fucking Hulk living inside my head, only with none of the power…
I don’t know how to tell you this but if anything the Trump Presidency has fucked over people who live in the United States way worse than it has fucked over the people who live in Canada.
You may feel powerless, but I encourage you to see that you are not. Collectively, you have the capacity to do anything but it requires that Americans find that strength and use it.
If you feel powerless, we are impacted as well. Every terrible decision lands on your doorstep but also on ours. We’re the same, except we can’t even vote. We can’t organize across borders. We can’t send money… but we suffer all the same.
Americans are dying for this president’s ego…
You are one Canadian. You do not speak for my entire country.
Own your feelings and opinions as your own. Don’t push them off onto the rest of us.
I’d never dispute that. I’m very glad to be on this side of the fence. Just not pleased to have to toss the metaphorical cigarette butts and beer bottles back over every morning.
Maybe direct your frustration at some people who actually support and enable this President then instead of condescendingly telling the rest of us “why don’t you DO something about him then?” like that’s a novel idea that never would have occurred to us otherwise.
I encourage you to be slightly less hostile and needlessly condescending to the people who stand against the same exact foes as you.
I think our mutual anger is valid. We both have good reason to be pissed off, and I’m not really all that pissed at you/sane Americans. That said, there are problems with America that only Americans can fix and the rest of the world needs Americans to fix before we all meet the end together.
Regionalism is a form of bigotry, one fully embraced by the Right. Misdirecting your anger at the behavior of the US government and the ultrawealthy who buy politicians onto the entirety of everyone subject to that government is not a good look.
I’m not the one blaming foreigners on my southern border for my problems this evening
