Fox News trial delayed. "Things happen," says the judge

Also to the surprise of no one…not a peep about the case at Fox News…

See, I don’t see them saying they admitted they lied.

I see them saying that they acknowledge the court said that some things were false.

That’s not an admission ,that’s a non-pology. It’s an “I’m sorry you got hurt by my beating you”

Wow, no justice.

Lots of money though. Yet still not enough money. Fox net worth as of April 17, 2023 is $16.44B.

“certain claims” my ass. This is bullshit. Now open to interpretation by all sides.

I think the thing people forget is Dominion is owned by a private equity firm and was valued at $30-$80 million by themselves. This was always going to be a cash grab by them.

I wouldn’t trust their voting machines from today on. They have shown what matters to them.

Honestly i think they exit at this point with the $787 million and shut it down. They got 10x-20x the valuation of their company. Spin off the tech and the contracts.

(Well, shut it down after the other suits settle/win)

Yeah  – are they going to stop broadcasting or something?

Even if there isn’t, Fox WILL spin it that way. There is no other way to understand this other than a victory for Murdoch, Fox news and the far right…

Literally, the LEAST important part of this trial… It’s not the god damn money that matters…

lets hope so, but when “clearing its name”, “recouping its losses”, and “supporting democracy” come into conflict, democracy will get ejected. shareholder value wins every time.

all fox has to do is dangle the money, and they’ve got billions.

“We acknowledge the court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false. This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards,” Fox said in a statement.

Huh, turns out I was pretty close!

I looked it up earlier.

$787m is right around a year’s profit for them. And there’s at least 2 more lawsuits floating out there.

That’s almost 25 Bill O’Reilly sexual harassment settlements!

It was always kind of naive to expect a for-profit corporation to take any action other than what they perceived to be in their financial best interests. As long as their fate hung on a jury decision they knew they might walk away with little or nothing. Worse, a jury decision favoring Fox would be seen as a public vindication of the “election fraud” nonsense.

ETA: Now that this trial is over it’s a good time to remember that, while Fox’s statements were indeed baseless and defamatory against Dominion, in a sane democracy no part of the election system would be privatized in the first place. Every piece of hardware, every line of code and every part of the tabulation process should be as transparent and open-source as humanly possible. Which company physically manufactures the machines in any particular district should matter no more than which printing company wins the contract to print up tax forms for your local IRS office.

It’s not even that, it’s an “I acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding I waved my fists in very close vicinity of your face. This settlement reflects my continued commitment to not punching people in the face.”

“We acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false,” Fox News said in the statement.

Fox News won’t have to apologize for spreading false claims, nor will its anchors be required to read any contrite statements or retractions on the air…
