Foxes are one of those kinds of animals that are totally adorable in videos but… problematic as pets, as the people making these videos will admit. Apparently even if you manage to housebreak them, they still end up pissing somewhere in the house first, and fox urine is both vile and impossible to clean. Also apparently foxes smell in general, and they’re nocturnal… I notice the videos of people who keep foxes have large yards and the foxes aren’t allowed indoors.

When, in quite a surprise, I found foxes in my yard the other morning, I had two simultaneous thoughts: “How do I keep them out, so they don’t eat my chickens?” and “can I make friends with them?”
