This for anyone who thinks that compromising with Republicans makes any meaningful change in their message. They literally got Roe V. Wade overturned, and it has only emboldened them to continue with the extreme propaganda that got them there. Specifically want to make sure to note that Democrats somehow reopening coal mines in West Virginia would not have stopped Newt Gingrich from saying this, or his rabid listeners from swallowing it.

Does anyone know any actual policy, regulation or proposal that Gingrich & Co. is warping and twisting beyond recognition here? I’ve heard these ridiculous claims a few times recently and I can’t believe people actually believe them. I mean, how would legally killing a 4 week old baby actually work? Do I have to do it myself? Do I hire a service? Do I just call 911 and a cop will swing by and shoot it, and maybe shoot my dog for good measure?

This is one that truly baffles me. For many conspiracy theories, I can see how people get sucked in to them and start buying in to them. They’re just so abstract that it can be easy to miss the details. But who the fuck is out there that seriously thinks there’s a large fraction of the population that literally wants to murder children? I can’t fathom how someone could actually be stupid enough to believe this shit.

I love books, but when I saw Newt had (ghost written by all accounts) some books in the science fiction section, they mysteriously moved themselves to the “remaindered” bin the store, where the covers are torn off and returned so the store can get their money back, and the actual books pulped or otherwise destroyed. No idea how that happened, must have been ghosts.

On the other hand I find myself terrified this many people are wallowing in what amounts to lurid violent sadistic pornographic fantasies about rape, pregnancy, femicide, and child death.
No one seems to be calling these “concerned” authors of horror out for what looks to me basically like a damned sick fandom.

It’s utter and completely made up bullshit. If I were to venture a guess, it’s from a similar strand of bullshit that fuels the myth that hospitals allow women to kill their baby immediately after birth: that, in contrast, hospitals allow women to hold a baby who has a fatal birth defect before it passes. What they see is a baby that was born alive and then it’s dead. They don’t care whether it was born with malformed lungs or heart. I’d guess this relates to the same kind of thing but with premes. Not all premes survive and parents are allowed to hold their child before the hospital removes life support. That could be “30 days after birth.”
That’s one of things that enrages me about these sick fucks. They have no hesitation to use dead babies and the pain and tragedy of the parents for sick PR stunts.

I don’t know where he gets the “30 days after birth” thing, but all the conservative dunces out here in Colorado were frothing at the mouth over the language of an abortion bill that, theoretically, would allow a doctor to legally abort a fetus up until the moment of birth. No reputable doctor would do such a thing, obviously, but because of the same conservatives’ fight against any abortion, the bill exists to decriminalize any form of abortion, to avoid doctors facing legal repercussions for providing health care. Especially in the most tragic of circumstances, where the conservatives’ response would essentially be a shrug and a thump on their bibles.

This kind of thing is always a callback to the Blood Libel and the Elders of Zion, that most stupid and stale of conspiracy theories. Gingrich knows exactly what he’s doing here.
Now that Pat Robertson has joined Falwell in relieving the world of their toxic presences, Gingrich is near the top of my list of those whose deaths I’ll celebrate. This bitter HS debate club dweeb has done an incredible amount of damage to America since the '90s and he’s not done yet.
