Fuck Elon Musk (Part 1)

Agreed. This seems like a hail-Mary to keep SLS alive in the face of growing criticism of it from beancounters like the GAO and NASA OIG. I doubt it will work.

So essentially filling the role that Ariane launchers and Soyuz did after NASA stopped having a launcher. The confusion is weird. Nobody says the fighters the companies build for the Air Force and Navy are not the Air Forceā€™s. And in that case they even sell them abroad (when the US government wants them to, in the configuration they allow). SLS is a NASA launcher, the first since it was gutted. The commercial launchers based in the US may use NASA tech but they do oligarchā€™s bidding.

Musky scent? Billionaire launches fragrance: Burnt Hair

Elon Musk, the worldā€™s richest man, is threatening to break into the fragrance industry with a scent branded ā€œBurnt Hair ā€“ The Essence of Repugnant Desire" and itā€™s already for sale on his Boring Co website.

In what may be a case of nominative determinism or simply a joke he has yet to share with the rest of the world, Muskā€™s new market entrant is selling for $100 a bottle or Ā£93 in Britain (international shipping not included).

iā€™d rest easier if we simply taxed the owners properly.

i donā€™t so much mind private companies competing to provide services to the government ( utilities are a separate thing ) - i definitely mind when itā€™s primarily enriching just a single or a few individuals

thatā€™s not how government should work. and thatā€™s when you get things like heinlein style dynasties in control of key technologies

( see also covid vaccines where we should have required that the technology be made public in exchange for all the money we gave to private companies. bill gates single handedly stopped all that )

Horrifying but not surprising: Musk is ending Starlink satellite support for Ukraine because they didnā€™t appreciate his suggestions about ceding territory to their Russian invaders.

Is Starlink government subsidized?

The funding is part of the broader $9.2 billion Rural Digital Opportunity Fund that provides an incentive for telecom companies to extend internet service to rural and underserved locations. **In 2020, Starlink won an initial $885.5 million subsidy as part of a Phase 1 rollout of the program.**Aug 10, 2022

And he gets paid to provide that service to Ukraine.

Fucking parasite should have the spigot turned off.
