That’s weird, since it offers a price in dollars and says “free shipping worldwide”. Just a lying website?
Really odd that there aren’t licensed ones available. You’d think it’d be an easy way to make money.

Yeah, I don’t know. There was some sort of fees tacked on. I think that site is sketchy and I’m not willing to put my credit card into it, anyway.
Poke around on aliexpress.com. BB likes to make fun of some of the stuff available there, but the range is excellent, most of the merchants there ship anywhere (albeit very slowly!), and I’ve had nothing but good experiences with ordering there.
Instead of playing Dragon Age, I’m fighting the dragons of whatever the hell is causing my svchost to fail. It’s not dramatic enough to stop Dragon Age from working on my desktop but I decided to spend a few minutes digging into why Chrome won’t work.
I’m starting to worry there may be issues with the SSD on my desktop. And my anxiety really doesn’t need that much help to kick into gear.
SFC: “Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.” You don’t say. It feels longer when you’re worried. And I assume no one has ever done an SFC without a worrying reason.
Of course svchost is just a process that hosts other stuff. So wonderfully vague when that (or rundll32 aka COM Surrogate) fails.
Yeah. Seems to have gotten a little bit better over the years. Svchost is still Windows’s dumping ground but at least now the event logs will give me a bit more clue as to exactly what was jiggling the wires.
“Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. [blah blah].”
Hooray.
If anyone has any suggestions on a decent SSD health checker, I’d appreciate it. For now, though, it seems the issue may be fixed? Going to reboot and hope things start working better in the mean time.
I have had some good success with fabric paints. Masking tape for straight lines, paint one color at a time, dry, set with iron. Remove tape for second color.
There is only one place I go for high quality, proven products:
If you get a white sheet, you can paint blue and green squares on it. Or your 15 year old can, as his own project. If you get a blue sheet, you may be able to shortcut the process and either paint yellow on the areas to be made “green” or just use a lighter green fabric paint. 100% cotton sheeting is ideal for good results.
Work surface should be flat. Take an old plastic shower curtain or plastic tarp and put it on the ground. Pavement works. A parking lot. A driveway. Etc.
If you have no time, it’s possible that someone on Etsy will take this one as a spec order. I have had zero experience with Etsy, but several neighbors have purchased stuff from Etsy vendors. Maybe here:
?
Could be pricey. Cost compare with getting something shipped from across the ocean?
Oh hey lookit!

In keeping with the theme of this thread, it took 11 tabs on this computer and heaven only knows how many tabs on the actual sad computer to figure out SFC was what I needed. If I didn’t need Windows for games and produce music, etc. …
Well shoot, that fabric was better than the fleece I just ordered. Meh, whatever. I am having a terrible day for no real reason today.
I had a dentist appointment. Because I have a heart condition, I have to take antibiotics beforehand. I’ve never forgotten to take them … except for today. And then I called my hygienist by someone else’s name like an idiot.
I went to buy a sewing pattern for some baby hats to make a gift for a friend. There was one pattern left … and someone had stolen half of it. There was only one sheet in the envelope for a 21-piece pattern.
And I just discovered that my mother, who I do not speak to, is apparently moving 3.5 hours away from me. It’s been a relief to have 1000 miles between us, and now she’s going to be a day trip down the road. AUGH.
Wow, I hardly ever even buy patterns any more, I usually just make them (cloned off of things I like and wear already). Uh, when I do find the time to sew. Stealing patterns out of their envelope that was trustingly left in those big file drawers at the fabric shop seems pretty low. Dang. Can you at least return the thing to the point of purchase for a swap out or refund?
Is your mom (I have no idea what her health status is) capable of driving? Has she driven 4-hour car trips recently by herself? Having someone nearly 4 hours away is still pretty far. I promise. Get Caller ID on all the phones you think she knows about so you can screen your calls if you think she’s planning something undesirable involving you. Last option could be to demand a meeting on neutral territory if she is bent on reconnecting with you.
Do not let her or anyone else you don’t trust/have major issues with/have bad feelings about into your own living space unless you are 110% cool with that. I learned that one the hard way.
I don’t have any sense of spatial relations, so unless it’s something I’ve made a lot (usually dresses or skirts) I need a pattern to translate from 2D fabric into 3D clothing. 30 years of sewing and I still can’t get pants crotches right without one.
My mother’s only hobby is road tripping, basically. She is a member of a car enthusiast group. Which is where she met her boyfriend, who it seems she’s moving to be with. I can only hope that keeps her busy enough.
I recognize that as being Ikea bedding.
Ruh roh.
Yeah, it’s possible that she could stay busy, new environs, new stuff to do. Here’s hoping.
Damnit, I’m gonna need a root canal and a crown. Thank fsm I don’t fear dentists.
“Could you make the novacaine a double with a sidecar of novacaine?”
Cable TV or a dvd via head set or screen in the ceiling are a thing at places that do that work. I got a root canal that while not fun wasn’t agony as watching an episode Delvecchio on the retro TV station was a great distraction to keep my brain from going what the hell is that they are using in my mouth now.
Fuck that shit. That’s crappy.
I’ve had three of those. My teeth feel apart after I moved to the US.
The worst bit was getting the bill. The actual process was fine. Don’t know why people get so worked up by dentistry. But then again, I quite like the sound/feel of the drill, so maybe don’t listen to me.
Me too. I’ve had three, and it’s just plain annoying and expensive. One tooth had to be done twice
I also knew this was going to happen, just not now.
Also, the slow drill is the work of Satan when it comes to my ears.
That sounds crummy.
Dentistry became less bothersome for me once
A: I discovered the Nitrous takes care of the anxiety
and
B: I convinced my dentist that I actually do need twice the Novocaine that is expected or else he has to stop in the middle to add more.
it’s honestly refreshing when going into a procedure knowing precisely what you need. i don’t need nitrous, but yeah i always warn them i will need another shot half way through. and it’s not really for the pain, it’s because i tend to flinch.
