Fuck Today (Part 1)

As I understand it, the Constitution doesn’t enter into it.

Roe V. Wade is the standing precedential ruling, and since that was a SCOTUS case (and unless RVW is overturned), if the thing goes to litigation it will surely be decided on that basis.

Vetoed anyway.

Good enough for me.

Its not like she objected to the bill though, she sounds like she agrees with it, just thought it would be defeated by a legal challenge.

Never; I don’t believe in rewarding shitty behavior.

Unfuck them.

I do like America, but I really think the last few seasons have jumped the shark. I know they’re trying to attract new viewers, but it’s just so hopelessly unrealistic and I can’t identify with the characters at all. Trump has stayed on for far too long when he was really just a bit of light relief - he’s completely implausible as a main character and I think the writers are running out of ideas and just introducing pointless conflict. Maybe they’re building up to a darker dystopian theme for the next season, but they’ve really lost me at this point.

My cat, who my spouse has nicknamed “Lord of Pandemonium”, stole the sheet from my bed and shoved it into his litterbox. I admit it’s a bit amusing as well as disgusting :stuck_out_tongue:

So that’s 2 republican governors who aren’t total morons lately - her and the GA governor.

Saturday I bought a used Land Cruiser to carry my suddenly larger family. Managing the logistics of transporting all of us is getting pretty tedious.

Today on the school run, the “check engine” light came on, so I ran it right back over to the dealer.

They plugged it in to the box and much pointing and whispering later, the sales guy comes out and says “so, what do you think of this Tahoe over here?”

“I think it’s twice as big, gets half the gas mileage, and it’s ugly.”

The problem remains unresolved.

I’ll take it. Honestly, I might be annoyed by arguments against abortion, but fuck people who would pass criminal laws to deter it.

Vetoing a law with motives you agree with because it is going to be found unconstitutional is doing your job.

No additional data provided about the cause for the Check Engine light?
I mean, it’s a Toyota- it should be able to run on piss and gravel and be ok.
Do. Not. Get. A. Tahoe.
Though, if they’re looking to swap out your new ride, isn’t there a Lexus version of a Land Cruiser? That’d be ok.

Pick up an OBD2 reader. They’re pretty cheap and you can look up the problem codes on the internet. Sometimes the check engine light will remain on, even when the problem is fixed. You can sometimes use the OBD2 to reset this, or if your car is older usually a battery disconnect/reconnect does the trick, though this resets other state as well.

Dude… that may well have been the reason she asked you out, minimal possibility of attachment/entanglement. Or you know she was just happy to see you after so many years and just wanted to talk more before you move away again. Either way you should have said yes that would be nice. Anyway here is a tipple to commiserate with :cocktail:

“Internal problem in the engine” is what they said. I didn’t ask for details. I don’t want to know; it’s not my problem. I think they said one of the cylinders had low compression, which probably means the head gasket is blown.

They told me to go ahead and drive it, just not very far. It’s running a bit rough. I used it for the school run this morning… I have to say, it’s glorious not having to make two trips anymore. I have to go back to the dealer this afternoon. Their other location down by the beach has another Land Cruiser I need to take a look at. I have the feeling they’ll do almost anything to avoid having to give me a refund.

No, the Tahoe is not an option. I’ve driven one before and I don’t like them. It holds the same eight people as the Land Cruiser, but it’s a lot bigger, and I don’t need the extra cargo room. And the Land Cruiser is more comfortable and it’s a lot easier to manage all the kids’ car seats.

uh… because you’re leaving? And she probably thinks she won’t see you again after this? This is akin to her running through the airport with a bouquet of flowers.

I also notice that you’re really talking about your feelings in all this… lots of “logical reasons” for this to not work or not be a thing… but no talk about how you feel about this lady… if anything. ???

I could, but I don’t want to-- it’s not my problem. My days of doing my own car repairs are long past. There’s a 30-day money back guarantee, and a 180-day full warranty. I like this dealer and I use them often, and they will make good on it.

If you just got it and it is under a warranty they fucked up the checks before the sale and are looking at a eating a big labor and parts bill. Make them fix it, get a lawyer if need be. :crying_cat_face:

Ugh. Low compression- could be a blown head gasket; could be pistons/rings are hosed.
FWIW, the Lexus LX series is a Land Cruiser too. If they were to have/offer one of those, that’d be the same thing (but nicer).
Good luck. Car trouble sucks.

To channel Pulp Fiction: “does RatMan look like a bitch?”

They’ll be more than happy to fix it, I’m sure… but I don’t want to be without it while they do, and I’d just as soon not have to deal with their engine repairs. If I can get another (or a better one; the one I’m looking at today is two years newer and 50,000 fewer miles) I’ll take that deal.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure it failed while I was driving it. It passed a legit smog check two days before I got it, so the compression was good then. California smog checks are comprehensive and stringent, and late-90’s cars are particularly scrutinized.

They could have also said ‘hey we fucked up this one shouldn’t have been for sale, lets give you your money back’ instead of ‘hey look at this SUV over here’ too.
