To the Chief Arsehole at FIFA.
Fuck you!
I was bullied at school for having ginger hair and freckles too. I have also had people threaten to kill me for being trans. They are not even close to being the same thing. Both need to be stopped, but one is worse than the other. I cannot safely go to countries in the Middle East, all will harrass me, some will arrest me, a few will give me a death sentence.
I do not want a short time where I am allowed to go there, I want a permanent end to queerphobia for everyone.
Does the host country usually perform so poorly?
Most hosts get out of the group stage, South Africa being the one exception so far (Mexico has a better goal difference in 2010).
Well Iâll be damned. Couldnât have happened to a better host.
But BBC viewers had just seen something unusual: a television broadcaster with the rights to show the worldâs biggest sporting event choosing to comprehensively trash the product it was about to serve up.
Thatâs certainly one way of avoiding going home
Little by little, inch by inch, the World cup mania is gaining momentum.
A little bit of context
Yellow cards? Pffft. Make them do it. Call their bluff.
The thing people most remember about the 1968 Olympics is Tommy Smith and John Carlosâs Black Panther salute during the menâs 200 m medal ceremony.
In 50 years, no one is going to remember who won this Workd Cup. Getting tossed for wearing human rights armbands? That would still be remembered.
Yeah, show at least 1% of the courage of the Iranian team.
I wonder if he thinks dressing up in a bedsheet ghost costume to go to the BET awards is a good idea too
The thing that interested me about that was the FA said they were happy to pay a fine but not the cards. Reminds me of Codyâs saying that for serial offender businesses fines are just a cost of business. Makes me think that we should look to hit businesses where it hurts.
Also interesting it makes a mockery of FIFAâs contention that itâs all about the football or that sport and politics are separate. If that were the case there wouldnât be a sporting sanction for a political act that had no impact on the actual game.
Dressing up as a knight from the crusades and going to Qatar is⊠something.
And probably didnât see the irony at all. Or he was fully aware and didnât care. Hard to tell anymore.
