The term goes back as far as Shakespeare, even… I think it was a term for a prostitute and in the 20th century it got this particular definition.
I think Sluggo is secretly Henry Rollins.

from beyond the paywall, OED’s definition for punk,
includes etymologies, etc
We must not look at goblin men,
We must not buy their fruits:
Who knows upon what soil they fed
Their hungry thirsty roots?
Yes, everyone’s pretty well served by going in:spam to look for important papers etc. and having that be the limit. Dunno how you can do goblincore without chasing pets and livestock to exhaustion and gore, destroying stills and masonry shops, and looting corpses. (And even Boris Yeltsin^WJohnson managed to do that Mr. Bean thing with a brolly.)
1950s Bathroom Flamingo Decals, anyone? @Mister44
The Art Nouveau faces from the turn of the last century and the 60s/70s are my faves. Love lotsa Deco ones, too, also.
Swans and lotuseses, surely?
Came here to post this prior art. Thank you.
Oh you sweet summer child… There are at least 30 “(something)core” and “(something) aesthetics” thriving between the younglings right now.
Things are so insane that there’s an entire wiki parsing all the variations Aesthetics Wiki | Fandom
It all boils down to teenagers going neo-parnasian and remixing previous nostalgia and fantasy/escapist trends. It’s RenCon for the Tiktok age.
I just worry about the younglings escapist “the past was better and so romantic” overlapping with white supremacy “trad” bullshit.
Cottagecore definitely has a problem with that!
Anything that neonazis can co-opt they will, from eco-fascists to “trad” bullshit to esoteric anti-vaxxers to people anxious about pedophiles getting into QAnon passing through Game and Comic gate and Vapor wave and so on and so forth. Even LARPers have “knights” and “reenacters” and whatever that QAnon dude in Capitol was.
Solarpunk is the better alternative, although it can be a hard job reminding people that it is at it’s heart an optimistic, libertarian-socialist view of a possible future, and that it is punk by rebelling against the expectations and pressures of modern mainstream society.
Lawns are not solarpunk! Neither is Singapore!
to be kinder to each other and to the planet we share.
Neat site. I am familiar with a lot of those things. I perpetuate some of those things. Some of those things are new to me.
It just seems like for awhile there, steampunk was creeping into other genres and overly prominent. Or maybe that was just my exposure.
I feel like many if not most people, youth especially, do that. Few people are completely content in the now. Some focus on the future, and some the past for that idealized time where things will/would be better. I was probably a few life choices from becoming a traveling RenFair person at one point
