Good (Encouraging) Stuff (Part 1)

Former Premier Dalton McGuinty, on stage a few years back with former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, said he was grateful to be there with the most powerful politician in Canada: Hazel McCallion… I think it wasn’t just her age that led to her retirement: when her share of the popular vote slipped, from 91% to 94% in 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2006, to a mere 75% in 2010, well, the writing was on the wall. At age 101 she’s just accepted an offer to extend her directorship at our largest airport.

Former pro hockey player… Putin would do well to wait for her funeral before invading… :canada:

the ruling is significant because it opens the door in Texas for people who were sexually abused as children to sue both attackers and institutions that mishandled or concealed the abuses years or decades later.

Statute of limitations begins to run when survivor realizes the abuse, not the date of the abuse. So survivors with blocked memories can sue after treatment reveals the abuse, even if that is decades later

There were a lot of grumpy birders on Twitter the other day talking about how tenuous the evidence of their return seems to be. From what I was reading, despite the claims, there is no solid photographic evidence, just lots of blurry photos and wishful thinking. I hope it’s true, though. I love stories like this.

Same. I saw a pileated woodpecker for the first time recently (fleetingly, because they’re very shy around here) and was just blown away. I can only imagine how impressive the ivory-billed was/is and love the possibility of the “Lord God bird” still hanging in there, somewhere.

I love pileated woodpeckers. They’re amazing birds and I’m always shocked at just how big they are. They’re always a rare treat

Aka the Good Lord Bird, supposedly because people who spotted the birds, which had a 2½-foot wingspan, couldn’t help but exclaim out loud.

We passed this today near Eldon, MO.

It’s a giant confederate flag hoisted by the Sons of Confederate Veterans (who I will not link to). Below it, facing both directions, billboards reading:
