He just seems like a great guy–he seems to genuinely understand the power of his celebrity, and how to use that for good ends.

ETA: The last video in this link has some nice interviews with him. He truly believes in what he’s doing. He doesn’t just show up and say “hi.”

Dolly Parton donates $1 million to pediatric infectious disease research - ABC News (go.com)

The country superstar’s donation will support the fight against diseases such as COVID-19 as well as help researchers prevent and understand antibiotic resistance and diagnose and treat infections in children who are fighting cancer.

Why is this woman so unique? Would it not be great if other megawealthy individuals gave back like this?

But you are right that the world would be a far, far better place if more people aspired to be Dolly Parton. WWDD

Honestly, I think what makes her unique is that she is an actual case of someone who came from deep poverty and forged her own path to success. Most of the mega-wealthy came at least from privilege if not from mega-wealth, and have little understanding or empathy for those struggling with poverty.

Another case of attempting to use police training as a huge money grab. They could use money and facilities that already exist and replace any bad apples conducting the training for far less. Glad to see folks fighting back against this!
