That was a great showdown. Kennedy was getting way more height than Moon but it looked like fatigue was affecting her form over the bar. Moon was not going to clear that final height in 1000 jumps; at least not without a new pole and a lot of adjustment. It was a good share.

2023 has been the worst year in history for anti-trans legislation, and though these attacks are far-reaching, transgender kids, in particular, have become a lightning rod for lawmakers and other adults. This is particularly cruel given that trans kids are some of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

We believe that children deserve the right to experience the wide-reaching benefits of organized sports in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment, without having to compromise who they are. We believe that is what is right and fair, from both a scientific and a moral perspective—and in this package we explore exactly why and how. We hope this collection of stories will help people who are new to this issue see that trans kids are simply kids, and will equip you to advocate for them in your own community.

Perhaps the greatest of all time,

Perhaps? Oh come on now. The greatest of all time, man or woman, without a doubt.

No doubt. Saw additional coverage from NBC this morning which includes slow motion replays (good for people like me, because Biles moves so fast) and commentary describing the difficulty of her moves:

I saw commentary one time that pointed out that her moves aren’t just difficult, they are dangerous even for world-class, Olympic-level competitors; that they have downgraded the scoring rubrics on some to dissuade others from trying them.

Even the “Women’s Technical Committee” admits:

The WTC defended its position, saying “In assigning values to the new elements, the WTC takes into consideration many different aspects; the risk, the safety of the gymnasts and the technical direction of the discipline. There is added risk in landing of double saltos for beam dismounts (with/without twists), including a potential landing on the neck.

… According to a release about the podcast, Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel, Meyers, and Oliver began meeting via Zoom shortly after the strikes began to discuss the next steps. “Their idea was to meet every week to discuss the serious issues a work stoppage creates,” it reads. “What happened instead was a series of hilarious and compelling conversations. Now, [the hosts] invite you to listen in on their once-private chats on this all-new podcast.”

In May, a source close to The Tonight Show told Rolling Stone that NBC paid *The Tonight Show’*s non-striking staff for two weeks, after which Fallon agreed to cover salaries for a third week. Additionally, healthcare coverage for staffers will reportedly be available through the end of September.

Strike Force Five will run for a minimum of 12 episodes, with each entry rotating which host is at the helm of the conversation.
