Good riddance: Justice Kennedy; Democrats, it's time for hardcore, relentless Gorsuch payback

When Reid kneecapped the filibuster, and McConnell finished it off with a shot to the head, did they kill off the old fashioned “talk 24-7” version, or just the newer version where only a roll call vote is needed to delay?

If the former still is an option it might be great optics for the midterms even if the vote isn’t finally shut down.

Here they are. Drumpf’s ace in the hole.

The last time the left went that way, we got this:

Cute story, but no. Nixon was elected because the Democrats passed and LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act, leading to the overt Southern Strategy. And LBJ knew it would happen, and did it anyway, because he stood by his goddam principles. Good on him. Instead of what the current leadership would do, which is negotiate with the opposition to only allow, say, half of the black population to have equal rights.

I think that’s partial true. LBJ was also losing the anti-war left, which was not insignificant in 1968. They ran Hubert Humphrey in 68, instead of a more anti-war candidate (McGovern or Eugene McCarthy), and RFK had been shot by the time of the convention so he was out. The southern strategy didn’t help, but the democrats likely lost the election to the war more than anything. Nixon also ran on a “secret plan” to get us out of vietnam (which was, of course, DO MOAR WARS), but it was part of his strategy too.

Wow, remember the days when you could lose an election because you supported a war of choice? What were we thinking.

(Also, don’t forget Wallace’s third-party run, which helped siphon off enough Dixiecrat votes to give Nixon a few Southern states.)

Yeah, I think it was both the southern strategy and the war that did Johnson in. Plus, he was getting sick at the time (he died not too long after). Vietnam is also part of the reason why the DoD more tightly tries to control the narrative about our wars of choice through mainstream, corporate media. All the many Cronkites trying to reveal the brutality of Afghanistan or Yemen are being studiously ignored.

Being strongly antifascist is not extreme left. You are accepting the right-wing rhetoric if you think it is. It wasn’t too long ago that you could take for granted that virtually everyone in the US was antifascist. Unfortunately, now, not so much.

Get one in the chute as soon as possible, then mobilize the base in November if the DNC can block it that long.

The US really needs a better, less politicised way to appoint judges. The current system works fine in a political landscape that’s not terribly polarised, but that’s not the landscape the US currently has. As it is, the Supreme Court becomes just an extension of the general political corruption of the US.

I like to think that I am an anti-fascist, but I don’t cosplay as one.

Here’s someone who is cosplaying:
