GOP justice Amy Coney Barrett worried people see Supreme Court as partisan

Bear denies shitting in the woods.

At a partisan event for the most partisan of all partisans in the Senate, Amy said we should not look at the court as partisan, even as she and right-wingers like Clarence Thompson continue to give aid, comfort, shelter, time, and money to partisans.

If she doesn’t want to be partisan, she needs to stop showing up at partisan events and participating in partisan rulings. This is just wanting to hand wave away their partisanship by trying to claim they are impartial in the face of all evidence to the contrary.

Gorsuch has to go because his seat was Obama’s to choose.
Kavanaugh has to go because he is a lying rapist.
Barett has to go because she was rushed in during the closing hours of trumps shit show.r

They all have to go by whatever legal means are at our disposal.

Uh, does she not remember that “Total fealty to the Trump Cult’s fascist agenda.” was basically her entire job description and requirement for employment? And it’s not like they ever even attempted to hide that in any way.

And they would do this … how? Closed doors, no minutes taken, totally opaque process. Omerta – and then complaining that nobody understands their delicate sensibilities.

In the United States, there are practically speaking two ways to amend the Constitution:

  • 2/3 supermajority of the House of Representatives, who must face reelection every two years AND 2/3 supermajority of the Senate, who must face reelection every six years AND approval by a 3/4 supermajority of the States, who also must face reelection
  • Alternately, a simple 5-4 majority of the Supreme Court, who hold life tenure

Isn’t it wonderful that the philosopher kings of the Court are above all partisan concerns [1]?

[1] Pay no attention to Kavanaugh’s vow of vengeance on the Democratic Party.

Don’t you mean Neil Gorsuch? I think that Garland was Obama’s nominee for that seta, whom Moscow Mitch completely ignored.

This is exactly what the GOP has been doing for many a year now. If they blame/accuse somebody of something, it’s safe to assume they are engaged in that something.

The Xtianist school where ACB taught & served on the board has been credibly accused of covering up child abuse. (Coverage about the People of Praise cult & their Trinity Schools is in the Washington Post; I’ve uploaded a PDF copy of the article so folks can avoid any paywall issues.) I’m sure the survivors were gaslighted by this same doubletalk from adults who “didn’t want to be perceived” as abusers. From the article:

“People of Praise leaders failed me,” Logan, 37, said in an interview with The Washington Post. “I think they wanted to protect themselves more than they wanted to protect me and other girls.”
Logan was encouraged to go to police by a founder of “PoP Survivors,” a Facebook group formed last fall after the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett, who has deep roots in People of Praise and who served on the board of its schools…

Yes - thank you. I’ll correct that.

It’s also been pointed out that ACB’s statement was a “bad note test” to see whether the press would notice. They didn’t.

The most famous version of this was the Van Halen brown M&M requirement.

Van Halen would stick a line into their preconcert setup instructions saying they wanted a bowl of M&Ms in the dressing room with all of the brown ones removed.

They didn’t actually care about brown M&Ms, but they wanted to see whether anyone was paying attention to what they said. (Van Halen for some reason wasn’t a fan of poorly secured high voltage wiring and pieces of sets falling on them due to slipshod oversight.)

When they showed up, they would check the dressing room and if they found brown M&Ms (or if nobody called them to ask about the requirement) they would immediately insist on a full inspection of all of the wiring and other systems.

ACB has just gotten confirmation that the press is going to let the hypocrisy slide. She can now push it even further.

The fucking audacity of the woman. As has been pointed out, she is concerned about it, insomuch as maintaining the illusion of the court being non-partisan is part of what allows conservatives to enact their unpopular partisan agenda.

It’s not self-delusion if she’s being entirely disingenuous.

Oh, she ain’t dumb. She may not be smart, but she’s definitely not that dumb. (No one is.) She knows how wildly unqualified she is to sit there, and how partisan and slimy the process was that got her in, how unprecedented the partisan nature of her interactions with Republicans before and after she was nominated, and the partisan political nature of her decisions.

She wants to be partisan, she just doesn’t want you to see her that way. (It makes her partisan agenda easier to implement if you don’t.)

So she’s really really really worried, just not quite enough to resign.

In other words - she’s got hers, fuck the rest of us.

So nothing means anything. Cool cool. Cool.

Just like most racists take great offense at being CALLED racist, but don’t mind actually being racist, Justice Barrett takes offense at being CALLED a partisan hack, but is more than willing to do the work of a partisan hack. She received her lifetime appointment 100% due to partisan hackery, and she willingly accepted it.

She doth protest too much.

It would be great for her if the deeply partisan and heavily political Court were not “seen” as partisan. Then she could advance her deeply regressive agenda by robbing people of their liberties under the imprimatur of the institution she is actively dismantling.

But we’re not fooled, Justice Barrett. It is clear to us that the Supreme Court is no longer a Court of Justice nor a Court of Law.

But it was clearly a non-partisan kind of vengeance, so it’s all good. /s

As always, Elie Mystal is right on the money and he’s been calling out a lot of the media’s bullshit as of late.

Then how is that any person who has been paying even a little attention can predict, before any arguments or evidence, how every member of the court will decide to maybe 90% accuracy an any given case? If you could call horse races with that sort of accuracy think how rich you’d be.
