GOP lawmakers attempt to define gay marriage as 'parody'

But Trump’s 3rd marriage to an Eastern European mail-order bride who is definitely not just in it for the money and on whom he definitely hasn’t cheated with pornstars and Playboy models is totally not a parody of a loving and devoted marriage!

I’ve been saying it for here in the UK for ages, but in the US, with it’s separation of church and state it possibly makes even more sense, it’s about time marriage rights are taken away from religions entirely.

Make every legal marriage a state thing that anyone can access, then the religious can tack on a religious ceremony* before or after if they wish, but only the state can legally register a marriage.

Instant level playing field for every citizen.

*Bonus, the religious can then discriminate to their hearts content as to who they can restrict the religious ceremonies to, without effecting anyone else.

I’d suggest that he SC legislature is, itself, a parody, though there’s the minor detail of people actually having to live there.

Sigh. Yup, I can’t even watch your post with a halfway decent vpn. My top three hardest nuts to crack are NBC, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.

Oh,you Southeners with your segregation! There you go again.

Why call it a “parody?” Why not stand up for your traditions and just call it “separate but equal marriage?”

That’s pretty much how it already is and has been for a long time. A couple signs the paper and then goes on to have what ever little sky fairy observance strikes their fancy. The extra bit doesn’t have anything to do with the important part. But still these asshats can’t just leave well enough alone and mind their own business.

How dare you, sir. Donald and Melania’s union is one of the great love stories of our time. Just look at the marital bliss on their faces whenever they appear in public together.

I have relatives who live in Texas, I’d rather they don’t have to flee persecution from a religious dictatorship.

Bigots are parodies of human beings.

I wonder what’s in their pre-nup that keeps Melania from finding someone who would love and care for her. OK, to heck with Trump’s tax returns; make him divulge his contract with his wife.

Keeping her son while fighting off his lawyers.

Is there any chance that they mean “parity” not “parody”? As in this is meant to be a new separate but equal, but the fine people of WY and SC just can’t english that good enough to spell parity.

Basically we need to become more French?

Thats pretty much exactly how it works. Yes, a religious leader is allowed to perform a marriage, but anyone else can to. In some states you have to be “certified” in some way, but in others any person can be a witness/officiant.

Leave Texas the hell out of the mess what is Wyoming and South Carolina. We’ve got work to do.

That’s a wall I’d be all for building. Just have it go around all the idiots.

Due to its Quaker origins, Pennsylvania law allows for self-uniting marriages. You just need your two adult witnesses and no officiant is required at all.
