They tried to disqualify him, but a state judge declared it unconstitutional to do that. Doesn’t sound like the ruling got appealed. It’s a small district - the winning candidate only got around 5300 votes.

One would think the Democrats could leverage the increasingly open criminality and violence of the Republican party in their campaign ads, or just as a way of discrediting their opponents in general. In my mind they were both such good actors that they would have sold it just as well as they did with the casting in this universe.
