GOP talk show host who expressed skepticism of Covid risk is "struggling to breathe"

That’s smart. I’m still working on it.

Ditto. At least inside in public.

Better late than never, I suppose… but he has done untold damage that he can never undo.

No one is ‘gloating’.
I, for one, have NO sympathy for self-inflicted wounds; if he didn’t give a flying fuck about his own health by putting ideology ahead of facts, I neglect to understand just why I should care about his health.
I save my sympathy for the innocents who were/are/will be affected, not for the purveyors of disinformation.

Same here.

Fully vaxxed, and still masking, still social distancing when out in public, still sanitizing my hands every few minutes, still avoiding people like… the fucking plague, literally.

And that said, I resent the hell out of every selfish idiot complicit in making this shit so much worse than it ever had to be.

I just looked the guy up, and taking a position contrary to the established science and then claiming otherwise is this guy’s whole shtick. He makes his money doing this. Who knows if he even believes it, or if he’s deliberately deluding himself to gain a following, but either way… He’s been a climate change denier for years - he even did a documentary. He lets ideology determine his positions with no concern for the facts.

That’s on top of the his other reality-denial and cruelty - advocating shooting border-crossers, claiming antifa was behind January 6th… He’s a real piece of shit, and I must revise my previous statement about not feeling good about his dying.

But only on this one issue. He’s so totally shitty on so many issues, it turns out, that it’s not much of a pass.

There’s an assumption that those types must be left-wing, but it’s not actually true. Some are, but what’s been revealed in the last few years is some “hippy-dippy” California types are reactionary to the point of actually being fascists.

Me and my wife as well - she’s been vaccinated since January and I’ve been so since April. Our toddler masks in public and the mask is something she requests as soon as we get out of the car. Even on 100f+ days.

I never want to get covid again and for that we mask and stay away from people like my mom and step dad (who don’t social distance, mask correctly, or have health insurance (they have that prepaid shit that would get wiped out the second they got admitted to the hospital (and go visit an alternative medicine doctor who recommends/"prescribes alkaline water and some $30 salt shaker of super salt, and… and…) /rant)

Then I don’t feel so bad about not feeling so bad‽

He failed to understand a lot of other things, too.

…who are not anti-death penalty.

To hell with those people.

This is pretty much the definition of a ‘shock jock’ and these people don’t work in a vacuum. Every part of the media system that provides his platform is absolutely complicit - the broadcaster, his staff, writers editors, researchers, program managers advertisers and importantly his audience.

Being given a platform only makes economic sense if that it brings in the ratings, he is there because there is an audience for his vile shit. The disinformation would appear to be more circular than top down.

Have zero sympathy for him and ambivalent about his family friends and fans.

Are his family and friends telling him to pull his head in or is their lifestyle more comfortable with him doing what he’s doing?

Are his core audience advocating his bullshit? How far down the infection chain does one need to go to find innocent bystanders or true victims not complicit with the deadly rhetoric? Well not far given the latest findings that the Delta variant can be transmitted by the fully vaccinated and public mask wearing is now vital and not just a precaution for the wearer.

I can imagine right wingers promoting Russian roulette as being safe because it “only” has a 17% fatality rate…

Yes, and note the glaring lack of any empathy in his calculations. Personally, I was much more afraid of inadvertently getting it and spreading it to others than I was of my own health (though I was and am concerned about that, too). This asshat’s “calculations” are all “me, me, me.”

I’ve noticed here, after a month or so of masks off, they’ve been coming back on. I’ve never seen anyone hassled for it, and never was hassled myself. I’m in a bright-red corner of a blue county, for what it’s worth.

Democrats are frequently wrong. Usually in making decisions that bow to centrists and attempts to placate the right in the belief that they can cooperate with them. Many, many, many other things too.

They are just slightly better and not living in a complete fantasy world.

same here in deep red Florida-da (even with a governor actively trying to kill as many Floridians as possible in some ill-thought out bid for the idiot vote to win the white house in '24?) but even at the locally-owned hardware store (no big box stores on this island) you see contractors, workers and locals wearing masks, something you might not expect of this venue/ clientele.

They strike me as people who want to go on living without having to be intubated…

He’s beyond struggling to breathe now. His family’s looking for a heart and lung machine / ECMO to keep him alive.

As for celebrating his death, well, I’m from tennessee. I moved out of Tennessee because of people like Phil Valentine and how they treated minorities. His existence and his hate speech threatened my life and livelihood. He, during this covid situation, has repeatedly shit on healthcare workers and vaccine volunteers and basically accused them of running a nazi like T-4 program for the Biden administration. One of his last on show acts was a song called “The Vaxman” which was a parody of the Beatles “The Taxman” where he just absolutely trashed a bunch of people. He wasn’t “not anti-vax” ever. He was hateful and cruel, and a man without compassion, completely unable to have a heart for ANYONE but himself and people who hate the people he hates.

As a Buddhist, I’m anti-suffering, and I want no living being to suffer. I take that vow seriously. I’m very sorry that he’s suffering through this, and I’m very, very sorry that his words and actions have caused countless others to suffer irreperable and immeasurable harm. But I will celebrate that a source of suffering is exiting the world with some good cause.

I am honestly surprised that right-wing conspiracy nuts haven’t yet full-blown accused the Left of intentionally infecting notable anti-vaxxers.
