For those curious about why it is blue, it froze or compacted in such a way that the ice crystals are coarser/larger, without the usual air-bubbles. So just as other water, the wavelengths other than blue are absorbed.

I don’t think there’s any season when Mackinaw isn’t beautiful.

You see this a lot on Lake Superior too.
