A better party would demand that he join the ticket.
A better world would ensure the ticket’s victory.
Mark Kelly looks like a good VP candidate:
Former Naval Aviator/Astronaut, Strong anti-gun advocate (Gabby Giffords’ husband)
well, now that you’ve put it that way, I DO WANT THAT.
It would be something to see, getting Governor Polis to throw his hat in the ring!
I don’t even care if he has bOINGbOING t-shirts.
how could he have time to campaign when he’s spending all his energy being handmaiden to the real estate developers in Colorado?
A better party in a better world wouldn’t have Harris as their best option.
This timeline isn’t in that world, unfortunately; we have no choice but to deal with the reality we actually do inhabit.
Sexism and racism may make getting her elected difficult, but I don’t see any indicators that she will not make a great president.
Additively, she’s had about 4 years of mentoring with Joe Biden, who I think has been one of, if not the best president since I was born.
It’s her pre-VP years that give me pause. From my perspective she’s basically what the Republicans were before things went completely nuts. I think she’s smart and capable but I don’t think she’s progressive.
As @Melizmatic indicated above, we don’t live in some idealized world… a truly progressive candidate is not going to be on the ticket, in part because it’s a big tent party, representing a variety of views, from the center right to the left. However, much like Biden ended up actually governing inclusiviely as a centrist, I suspect Harris will to, and maybe she’ll be a bit bolder about it, especially if progressives get out there and work within the system that exists right now. You want a more progressive Democratic party, well, then make it so, and stop waiting around for some perfect candidate to be dropped in your lap. That’s not how politics work.
Steve Shives sort of summed it up perfectly…
Then why not say that instead of vaguely disparaging a woman of color. Not a good look.
She is what’s on offer, and she’s worlds better than what the other duopoly party is serving up. If she doesn’t meet your purity test enough to vote for her, fine. Just keep in mind that not voting for her effectively says you’re cool with her opponent winning.
If we all rally around her, we can stop a fascist take over. That’s what matters right now. Then we can do the hard work of moving the overton window back to something reasonable. But that’s not going to happen if we have a fascist takeover of our country…
That fucking part.
This isn’t ‘wish fulfilling fan-casting’; we have to operate within the parameters of the only two choices we actually have.
