I didn’t appreciate this band enough growing up. They are fantastic, but this rendition of Mad World is still my favourite.
Clearly still amazing and putting out great new music. Had the pleasure of seeing Billy Bragg live last night, and count him in the same boat. Older musician still doing great work, and in his case still radicalizing everyone he can.
I was so fortunate to see Billy open for The Smiths in 1985 on the Meat Is Murder tour. Just him and his guitar. One of the best shows I’ve ever attended.
Saw them live this summer. They were awesome, and they played a lot of their new album along with their hits and some nice catalog cuts.
I gained my appreciation for Tears for Fears kind of accidentally. In the early 90s, my brother was in one of those CD of the month clubs, and one month the featured CD was a Tears for Fears greatest hits album. I think it was this one. Anyway, my brother was a metal head at the time, and forgot to check the box to say he didn’t want this monthly CD. But he was nice enough to ask me if I wanted it before sending it back, and I said sure, even though I was only familiar with Shout and Sewing the Seeds of Love at the time. I remember being pleasantly surprised at how great every track on that CD was, and I played the crap out of that CD. Best indifferent “here, you want this?” gift I ever got.
I think it is cool that they got Billy Bailey to stand in for Orzabal in this session.
Their new record is terrific. This video was a treat!
