Grown Caucasian woman throws tantrum on train in Taiwan when asked to wear a mask

I am and I do. Chinstrapping and dicknosing put other people at risk and need to get shut down hard. Wear a mask properly or GTFO

That’s cool. I am glad there are people like you out there. I don’t want to presume, but I suspect you might be experiencing life in a body slightly less prone to physical attack than the one I got stuck in.
Either way, thanks for fighting the good fight for all of us!

Don’t they have nunchucks for this sort of thing?

Oh, probably! I’m not an imposing presence by any means, but I’ve been told I can be somewhat intense at times.

That said, I learned this behavior from my mother and maternal grandmother, both of whom represent(ed) the petite side of the spectrum. Feisty doesn’t begin to express it!

Hi, I have been a boing boing comments lurker for years and you have been one of my favourite posters. Some time ago I noticed you were missing and I was worried for you especially with Covid as it is in the US.
I was so pleased to see your post so I joined up just to say good to see you back!

They should just deport her.

We sew a pipe cleaner into one hem of ours. Helps greatly with fit around the nose. I’m not sure how well it holds up in the wash, though

Hey, welcome back!

Also: I’m wearing my mask backward right now!

I don’t know if it’s the same now, but when I taught ESL in Asia, and fair amount of ESL teachers were barely-credentialled covert Christian missionaries. Many of them were nice people, but most of the belonged to rather cultish branches of Christianity. Some of those people could be quite challenging. In addition, there were a fair number of eccentrics and challenging people who were not Christians.
There’s a buried assumption here that USian Christians of that Evangelical sort might be more prone to have difficulties with the idea that masks are a Good Thing.

That’s the reason I never sewed a wire or pipe cleaner in mine. Not sure how they’d go through the wash.

She should go to Singapore and try that kind of behavior. They’d put her in jail, fine her, then deport her.

Maybe it’s just seeing too many people die unnecessarily, but I have to strongly disagree with your last statement. This is not about complying with a cultural practice out of politeness, this about not causing other people to sicken and die. It should be a big deal.

We’re in a global pandemic. This is a textbook case of a good battle to pick. If she’s a known problem child, it’s also a good case for deportation out of Taiwan, who had been a great example of how to manage a pandemic. Kowtowing to people like this is a remarkably stupid way to handle a pandemic.
