Plus he spent half of his career without wearing pants!
I kinda liked the remake. . .
Oh. . . you mean the film remake. . . haven’t seen that either.
It’s Yul Brinner’s voice. Never mind the scalp. The voice, dudes, …the voice!
“That’s just the way of the West, Chuck,” sighed Steve.
You need a “Battle Beyond the Stars” mixed in there.
oops of course others beat me to it.
The Princess Bride got a remake ?!?
oh, wait, you mean the other…
So what you’re try to say is it…
I was today years old when I realized A Bug’s Life was just an animated Seven Samurai.
Yeah, but he had no chance in standing up to Brynner in hottnesss…
Not yet, but there have been reports that Sony is considering one.
Cary Elwes had the best possible response to this idea:
I wouldn’t mind a “serious self-examination of toxic masculinity” version of The Seven though. Especially in this timeline we’re stuck in. Done right, it could be monumental.
ETA: And this means opposite the self-back-patting of movies like Green Book.
Battle Beyond the Stars is one of my all-time favorite 80s-insanity movies. It’s both fantastic and terrible in all the best ways.
Shad : [looking her in the eyes] NO violent ending is beautiful.
Saint-Exmin : [smiling] You’ve never seen a Valkyrie go down .
Space Cowboy.
Of course he is protective, it was his best role ever!
Played by Robert Vaughn, who was in the original Magnificent Seven!
George Peppard?
I got the characters mixed up.
George Peppard was Space Cowboy.
However Robert Vaughn was in both Battle Beyond the Stars and Magnificent Seven
The distinct difference between this movie which is almost universally regarded as a masterpiece of film and any modern movie is very clear-
Special effects are not the focus, cutscenes and things to grab your eyes are not the focus- the focus is phenomenal acting in long takes from skilled people, with character. And they follow a script that is naturally dramatic from being well written.
Everything being churned out now, even when it’s a good movie, the pace is too fast. I think there are some incredible stories occasionally ruined by pacing too fast through the story just to fit an arbitrary 2 hour time limit for most movies. It cheapens the gravity of the story most of the time.
Yul Brenners don’t grow on trees, either. Very difficult to find people even approaching the skill of actors from 50 years ago.
