I think it’s just voter outreach. Specifically to a group of very online young people who may not be reached some other way. It’s good to see the Harris/Walz campaign surrogates going to spaces they may not be comfortable or familiar with to try and reach new voters. Definitely better than pandering to the (mostly non-existent) undecided voters.

Yeah, one thing I have to remind myself from time to time is that there are a lot of people who just don’t pay that much attention to the world at large on a day-to-day basis. They just live and operate in their own little bubbles, and a lot of these people just see politics as “Ugh, politics. I hate politics.” Many of these people do not understand the threat Donald Trump is. They think everything is just normal politics, red v blue, Dems v Reps, libs vs cons, and they don’t think it really will affect their daily existence one way or another. And young middle class white people are square in the middle of that group. Sykkuno, whoever he is, even says at the beginning of the video, that he doesn’t know much about this stuff and he’s hoping to learn something. I don’t think outreach to this group is wasted effort. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know if he’s influential in the vtuber community or not. I don’t really even know what the vtuber community is all about. But if it convinces some young people in battleground states to vote Harris, I’m for it.

I’ll try to keep this dynamic simple and brief.
The Harris campaign started to reach out to streamers after the Trump campaign reached out to Kick streamers Adin Ross and xQc. Pokimaine had beef over the years with streamers who promotes gambling on their streams and Ross and xQc are the biggest such gambling streamers picking up multi million dollar exclusive streaming deals with Kick who are ran by the online casino company Stake.
Ross and xQc have a long history of being openly hostile to vtubers with Ross acting like dickheads about vtubers. Ross threw a conniption a few weeks back when Ironmouse overtake Kai Cenat’s paid subscriber record on Twitch. XQc dipshittery goes back a long way with abusing the ‘vtuber’ tag on Twitch, accusing vtubers with an transphobe coded insults accusing many of them of being men behind those avatars (which Ross has also accused others of too) even though that’s extremely rare these days (and that LGBTQIA+ vtubers are quite open with stream about who they are) and several incidents of vtubers going out of their way to make xQc miserable so there really isn’t any love lost there. Vtubers have over the years tried to stay out of politics openly over the year not being quite sure how much of that had carried over from the japanese side of things and when it does; it tends to leans into the right wing grifter influencer sphere from folks like Nuxtaku, Kriche and Smugalana (all figures on the fringe comparatively speaking) or controversies like the Hogwarts Academy streaming boycott. Sy said he used his avatar because his skin broke out lol.

and bringing this to our attention. Harris, Walz, and all Democratic candidates should be trying to meet people where they are, including online in communities they may not understand
So, tell me if I have this right: Essentially Trump and company reached out to a couple of assholes who are popular streamers. They want the votes of all the disaffected misogynists who follow those assholes. Those assholes have long been assholes towards the various vtuber communities, which traditionally don’t speak much to politics. Probably because vtubing is generally a more accommodating and diverse community? Or maybe just to be assholes
Some of the vtubers decided that maybe they ought to talk about politics after all, seeing as how Trump getting elected would be a disaster. One of the popular ones finagled what appears to be a fun discussion with several famous Harris/Walz campaign surrogates to show his viewers

Yeah pretty much but they didn’t reach out to the vtuber community in particular (heck they probably found out about it after last night lul). Sy was a facecam streamer (often referred to as a ‘fleshtuber’ going by vtuber community slang) for quite a long time so he does the vtuber thing too.
