Gritty’s got my vote, and I can’t stand The Flyers!
Gritty may be the Flyers mascot, but he belongs to the world, now. And we belong to him.
Here’s a couple I of pics I snapped. People were hyped!
We drove. Parking was a madhouse, as you might imagine–took us an hour just to leave the parking lot afterward. It was at the GSU Convocation Center, south of I-20, and a little north of where the Ted used to be – not really near the bulk of the GSU campus.
OMG, you guys were CLOSE! Awesome! I’m jealous!
I saw Stacey Abrams’ clip online! She’s awesome-sauce… And Mayor Dickens also spoke, I saw…
They built that (or bought it, I can’t remember) after I graduated me thinks, but I only walked for my phd, so… But I guess I better learn where it is in the next couple of years before my kid graduates!
Thanks for sharing!
Oh! One more question! I heard Megan thee Stallion was there, too? How was she?
The pics above are zoomed in and make it look like I was way closer than I was — don’t get me wrong, we were close, but in the back of the standing area. It was under the lights and VERY hot — my wife started to feel faint after having stood for three hours without water and had to go sit down, unfortunately just as Kamala started speaking. I went to a local HD 81 Dem gathering last night, and many people who are higher up the food chain than I am in the DeKalb Dems told me they were in the nosebleed sections, so … I have no idea how they allocated the seating — it was all done by email before everyone showed up (we did respond very quickly to the invite). We just got very, very lucky. It was also fun seeing journalists like Laura Barrón Lopez, Yamiche Alcindor, and Peter Alexander in the wild.
Megan Thee Stallion gave a great show — two songs, very high energy! A big surprise to all of us that she was there. Stacey Abrams was VERY well appreciated. Chants of “STACEY! STACEY!” started, and she changed it to “KA-MA-LA!” which was very gracious and cool of her. Besides Mayor Dickens, Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock spoke and got folks fired up. The last two pics below show what my view looked like more accurately (not zoomed). I had to work around a tall guy in front of me.
Excellent! Other than your wife feeling faint, it sounds fucking awesome. Kind of weird that did not have water for people, tho, but I guess they threw this together pretty quickly.
Yeah, Abrams is awesome…
I dearly wish Abrams could have a higher position in government. She is an impressive woman, and could get so much done.
Yeah, I don’t know if she’s planning to run in… will it be 2026 when Kemp’s term is up… again for Governor? She should, though. With the growth in the metro, the state-wide races are becoming much more competitive. If a Trumper were to manage to get the GOP nomination, I suspect it’d be an easy win for her. The more moderate Republicans still have some hold on the party in the state, it seems.
Or a Cabinet position where she can work on voting rights…
Abrams is an incredible organizer, and is largely responsible for our statewide Democratic victories in Georgia. I don’t know if she has the heart to run for governor again, but she would be a great one. I like the idea of a cabinet position in the Harris administration. She’d be a dynamic, intelligent spokesperson for whatever post she held and an able surrogate for the admin in general – much like Mayor Pete has been for Biden.
