I’m not allergic or sensitive to almonds, so that’s not a problem, but I do buy Lactaid. And not because I’m lactose intolerant. I buy it because I don’t drink all that much milk, and that milk stays good in the fridge for weeks after opening it. So thanks for sharing that notice, because that stuff stays good a lot longer than regular milk. A lot of people will still have that in their fridge.

So you always wanted to own a flamethrower, but just couldn’t justify the cost?

The parasitic roundworm behind the infection, called Baylisascaris procyonis , spreads via eggs in raccoons feces. Adult worms live in the intestines of the masked trash scavengers, and each female worm can produce nearly 200,000 eggs per day. Once in the environment, those eggs can remain infectious for years. They can survive drying out as well as most chemical treatments and disinfectants, including bleach.

Hmmm, we do have racoons around…

Ah, here it is!

Because the negotiating power of one person is so much more powerful? And you not only have the time to negotiate- you have the specialized knowledge and experience of healthcare and law.

Had to go looking, had never heard of these. Turns out, developed int he '50’s but never released because they were too dangerous. Clearly, pharma ethics have evolved since then!

40x as potent as fentanyl, incredibly high abuse potential, no good test. Excellent, this should go well…

Ayup. My medical chart says “anemia due to chronic blood loss”, aka menstruation. It’s soo common. I recently overheard a coworker casually say “oh yeah, my iron levels are really low, I might need to go to the hospital shrug”. Reducing anemia is one of the many ignored (:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:) public health benefits of hormonal contraception.

(Is widespread anemia a result of devaluing women’s reproductive health? Probably!)

About 80% of the kids that died from flu this season were not fully vaccinated against influenza, CDC data shows. Nearly half of the children had at least one pre-existing medical condition.

Of more import to me is that at least half did not. Healthy kids do not have to die from this shit.

It’s true, that ‘season’ felt like it was at least 3 years long. Thanks for the corroboration!

Follow-up on a previous post regarding wild west standards regarding tattoo inks in USA studios. Surely Europeans do better with this, right?

According to Swierk et al., nine of those 10 inks did not meet EU regulations; five simply failed to list all the components, but four contained prohibited ingredients. The other main finding was that Raman spectroscopy is not very reliable for figuring out which of three common structures of Pigment Blue 15 has been used. (Only one has been banned.) Different instruments failed to reliably distinguish between the three forms, so the authors concluded that the current ban on Pigment Blue 15 is simply unenforceable.

OK, maybe not…

But does bring up

I had that problem too. Dietary changes and supplements weren’t enough either. I ended up getting an iron infusion and an IUD. The IUD kicked my periods down to spotting and my iron deficiency is much better ever since. Plus I kind of love the light periods

It was actually a sleep neurologist who figured out my problem. Low iron levels, not even anemia just low, can contribute to sleep disorders. The brain needs the iron for the sleep paralysis mechanism to function correctly.

Researchers found the seasonal flu vaccine reduced the risk of hospitalization from flu by 35% across five Southern Hemisphere countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. The shot was nearly 59% effective at reducing hospitalization among those with underlying medical conditions.

Don’t get me wrong, 35% is way better than 0%. But we do usually expect 40-60% reduction in risk of hospitalization. Still, get your shots. Remember, the denominator here is unvaccinated folks. Don’t be part of the denominator.
