Whenever I donated something that was temperature-sensitive or if I had any questions about specific kinds of Rx, I’d call in advance, or when I came to drop off, I’d talk with someone working in the front office. And I’d hand my bag of pills, ointments, syrups etc. to a human. (As opposed to leaving it outside on the donations rack out front.)
As always, YMMV. They often are understaffed, so be persistent if you are trying to call or email them.
The problem has bubbled up again in a series of commentary pieces published in JAMA Internal Medicine today. The pieces were all sparked by a viewpoint that Ars reported on in May, in which three dental and health experts highlighted that many routine aspects of dentistry, including biannual cleanings, are not evidence-based and that the industry is rife with overdiagnosis and overtreatment. That viewpoint, titled “Too Much Dentistry,” also appeared in JAMA Internal Medicine.
I heard that this morning. The scary part is that the surgery was only stopped because all the OR people involved flat-out refused to continue, and the organ donation people couldn’t find anyone else who would step in and do it.
Based on data from 49 states plus the District of Columbia (Montana did not report data), 80 percent of jurisdictions saw declines in vaccinations of all four key vaccines assessed: MMR, against measles, mumps, and rubella; DTaP, against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough); VAR, against chickenpox; and polio.
Seeing this here as well. To the point that we have quite honestly stopped trying to talk them out of it. Way too many now are driven by disinformation and political identity, and are not just unreachable but actively hostile to facts that disagree with them. It’s a very sad place. I don’t have an answer.
Overall, 39.7% of students experienced persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness, 28.5% experienced poor mental health, 20.4% seriously considered attempting suicide, and 9.5% had attempted suicide.
This is a huge issue that is truly not being discussed enough. Nearly 1 in 10 HS students have tried to kill themselves. It’s really hard to wrap your head around numbers like this. Mental healthcare has largely collapsed for kids, and we are reaping the whirlwind from that. Please, love your kids and listen to them. They are going through some shit.
Parents should probably be aware of this. I am always amazed at the number of parents who are not aware of just how much cheerleading has changed in a couple generations.
Cheer has been increasing as a source of orthopedic injuries over the last decade or so, with back injuries in bases and fractures in flyers pretty common. It’s not just jumping around on the sidelines anymore.
This is one of my smaller nightmares kii-kitten occasionally gets very interested in cheer and my anxiety raises it’s head every time. Kii-kitten is on the taller side with some impressively dense muscles. Unlikely to be a flyer. But I don’t think the position of bases is much better. Just choose flag instead kid! They have better costumes, are more diverse in gender and body types, and get to wave around pretty flags
