I haven’t seen all of those movies but even the ones I have seen I mostly missed. the obvious “they keep pulling me back in!” “dingo ate your baby,” yeah, I got those. the magic loogie and end of Midnight Cowboy, sure. but the nixon leaving the Whitehouse, no. the Basic Instinct thing with Knight in both just seemed like a generic hardboiled interrogation.
reminds me of writing advice I saw once: just steal the plot from any old book that is passable to match your story because it just doesn’t matter. that’s just a skeleton to hang your ideas on. your voice, characters, dialogue, and prose are way more important.
