What these type of meetings sell, which I gather are not uncommon across the political spectrum, is the opportunity to drop “I had dinner with the president”.
For people of a particular stripe, the status boost would easily be worth a million dollars. Consider the other status goods that cost $1M+, it doesn’t seem out of the ordinary.
Of course, given the current situation, I’m surprised dinner with Trump isn’t considered a status hit that would be worth avoiding even if they were paying the guests a million to attend.
My guess is this name drop will have a very limited shelf-life…

I guess some people still think Trump has a good chance of winning in November. Or else they have enough money to casually throw away a half mil on a whim.
This world is owned by the wealthy, always has been, they just let us live here so we can do their laundry and mow their lawns. They will destroy this world trying to eke every last dollar out of its natural resources, then they will try to buy the remaining food and pay for their protection when it all goes to hell.

These people exist in a very shiny bubble and the light from the oncoming electorate freight train just reflects off it.
They should be very fearful of their security providers when it all goes to shit, but won’t because of their arrogance and feelings of entitlement. Eat the rich will take on a whole new and very immediate meaning for these douches.

I’ve been there too. A ‘jewel’ that many don’t seem to notice is their fictional grant supporter, mentioned in a couple of longer skits. Instead of “… a grant from the Chubb Corporation” it’s “…a chub from the Grant Corporation.” Damn, I miss the entire cast, especially John Candy.
