Herman Cain dies of Covid

This is interesting to think about. But I don’t think it has ever really been different in the past, at least not in the last few generations. It’s a lot easier for some people to make their morals fit the opportunity than to stick to them and plenty of people are just not intrinsically motivated by some sense of morality or are only so motivated to the extent that other people hold them accountable.

Legitimately it’s probably going to be impossible to know. They don’t have contact tracers, we don’t know how many got it there and spread it around but never knew they had it, and we don’t know whether Herman Cain got it there or got it from someone before or after the events.

It’s not like he was wearing masks anywhere else he went either.

i think it’s important to say though that it’s the racism that’s killing people of color disproportionately, not genetics or something.

it’s that black and brown folks are more likely to have underlying health issues due to environmental racism; the racism in healthcare, health insurance, and by health providers (*); racism leading to the differences in wealth and opportunity that means people of color are statistically more likely to have covid-dangerous jobs, use public transportation, have multiple generations of family living together, etc.

cain’s personal situation doesn’t fit most of the reasons that black americans are more likely to die of covid.

that’s just my read anyway.

(*) okay, cain doubtless did have to deal with this during his life. and it sucks. still it seems much worse for a person who isn’t wealthy enough to be able to mitigate some of the effects of racism by picking their doctor and healthcare team personally

Nope; you’re spot on.

Cain was rich and occupied a position of privilege; therefore he didn’t exist on the same ‘playing field’ as the average Black man, at least as far as consistent access to high quality health care goes.

yeah. and just to be clear, im sure he experienced hella racism in his own life. it was just the covid/health issues that i was thinking he would have been more protected from these last many years.

( and maybe even it was his reaction to the racism he experienced that might have been part of why he made some of choices he did.

he could have made different choices, of course. and it doesn’t seem he was out to help anyone but himself with the choices he made. so there’s that. )

Of course he did; it’s impossible not to when you are Black in America.

That’s what makes his willing tokenism and passive-aggressive facilitation of White supremacy so thoroughly repugnant to me, and why I have no problem whatsoever dragging a dead man for filth.

The term ‘kapo’ exists for a reason.

There will always be individuals willing to be the kapo.

Oh, I’m knowing.

But not being of Jewish faith myself, I tend to call the equivalent in the Black community ‘self-hating Black people’… or if we need a nickname, Uncle Ruckus.

I’m fairly talented, I can do both.
