I don’t think that I ever had the Colorforms as a kid, but I did have the DIY alternative. The classic felt/flannel board (I think that it was my older sister’s 4H project)
It’s more fun to play the Colorforms way!
I remember having more fun with my Magnastiks, I never did figure out how they worked, though.
Funny, I don’t remember the smell! Maybe my nose has always been plugged because of allergies.
I know there were several sets around the house when I was a kid, but I don’t remember the themes / licensed properties.
I do remember a failing not mentioned in the article. Once the “stickers” got dirty, or the board got grubby, it was game over. The magic sticking property was gone forever.
