I only looked at one, but the Honey War was a border dispute between Missouri and Iowa. Militias were called out, a tax collector was arrested, and somebody cut down some trees with beehives in them. But there weren’t, like, shootings of people. Seems like a pretty chill war, if you ask me.

I wonder what happens if it comes down to actually refusing a direct order rather than discussing hypotheticals. This really becomes a no win situation. In this circumstance I really want the generals to just say, “No, sir, we cannot do that.” On the other hand, setting the president of the uniformed services refusing commands form the civilian leadership is a short and steep ramp to serious ugly. Nobody wins, but that is the new normal, I guess.
