Shining Rock is a peak in western North Carolina that is composed of white granite. When the sun hits it right, it looks like the mountain is capped with aluminum foil.

Do you really want to know?
First, the sun is a sort of spotlight. It only illuminates part of the globe disc at a time.
Second, this spotlight orbits the North Pole (or to be precise, an axis perpendicular to the globe’s disc’s surface extending from the North Pole). Hence why it’s daylight at different times in different places.
(I am not making this up. This is genuinely how they explain time zones. No, I don’t know how it accounts for the different times of sunrise at sunset at different latitudes within the same time zone. Or, indeed, how it accounts for sunrise and sunset at all.)

You know how if someone goes over there there’s a trick of the light whereby they “disappear” over the “horizon”? Well, that’s what happens to the sun, duh.

I think we gotta put things in perspective. these flat earth videos and twitter accounts are lucky if they have a few thousand “likes”. There’s like 350 million people in the US alone. i don’t think anyone would be surprised that there’s a ridiculously gullible person (or joking troll - we cant be sure all the followers and likes are actually serious) out there for every 100,000 people. whats more frightening is the 45 percent of people polled who still like trump. that’s actually depressing.
