"How can the moon reflect light if it is a rock?" excellent self-own

The East isn’t flat, it’s Red

Fire isn’t a light source.

Thank you for establishing you are completely insane.

If fire isn’t a source of light, then water isn’t wet!

This is the problem with people who deny basic science- basic objective reality is outright ignored

Well, no, it was the Republicans in the U.S. and the Tories in the U.K. who have been assaulting public education, science and critical thinking. Don’t turn around and blame liberals when your right-wing theories fail.

It’s more than that. If the world isn’t flat, and I spent so much of life beliving that it is flat, then what am I? A fool? No. That can’t be. It must be true.

I take it you did not click the link. This is one of those places where you are flat out incorrect in your first two words.

I thought that Einstein had shewn that, as you approach the edge of the world disc, time dilation makes reaching the edge impossible. The dilation effect is 1/(1 - beta^2) where beta is the ratio of the distances between you and the centre of the disc, and radius of the disc. So, as you approach the edge, beta becomes closer to 1 and the dilation effect becomes bigger and bigger, potentially approaching infinity as you reach the edge. Because of this time dilation, an external observer (say suspended from the moon, whatever that is) sees you going slower and slower. For you, everything appears normal because your watch also runs slow. This also explains why some flights take longer than others.

I have two offspring who are both physicists and I suggested that we write this theory up as a real paper and submit it to the next Flat Earth Conference. Neither of them thought that it would enhance their academic credibility. Odd.

You… don’t know what neoliberal means. Which is OK! But look it up, and you will be less confused about the poster’s meaning.

This is why I apply the Rule of Goats to the flat earthers.

So it is a Poincaré disk model? More of a hyperbolic Earth than a flat Earth.

There is only one disc, but it’s in a different part of the multiverse, not the one we live in…

Nice GIF (hard ‘g’ or I will cut you), but it’s turtles all the way down.

Hey! I’m on your side there! Hard G all the way!

Must be a hard ‘g’. Otherwise it would be pronounced “jiff”, and there is already a perfectly cromulent word pronounced ’jiff’.

Hard G, or GTFO.

I’m pretty sure they are people who can’t (or won’t) hold more than one thing in mind at once. The “spotlight sun” answers a question they had, so they’re satisfied, and never think about all the other problems it does not answer, or indeed causes. It’s a failure to look at the forest, focusing instead on the details of bark on the trees.

You see a similar thing with other extensive systems of pseudoscience or conspiracy theory, too. Take Young-Earth Creationism, for example, where there are superficially plausible explanations why the mainstream science is wrong on this issue or that… but when you step back and look at the whole picture, you see that they have to deny everything to make it “work”.

This reminds me of something I read that some form of Creationist wrote. Loosely paraphrased, it was

“In a closed system, entropy can only increase, so evolution can’t produce more complicated forms. That would require some kind of external energy source putting energy into the system, and I think scientists would have discovered something like that by now.”

I can only assume he was posting at night.
