For a second, my brain read the headline as “how to build a fire AND a knife with a piece of bamboo” and was really confused… Finally got it sorted…

Bamboo knives are a real thing. Split bamboo will give you the mother of all paper cuts.
I’ve read that in Southeast Asia, a fresh sliver of bamboo was the traditional tool midwives used to cut the umbilical cord.

Okay, I get the technique, but bamboo doesn’t grow around here. If I’m supposed to remember to bring along a length of bamboo, it might as well be a pocket lighter instead. Right?
