Wonderful things. Taught me something about an impromptu vice/clamp, too.
ETA and the second piece in the third video was fantastic - how he pre-made all the pieces and they all fitted perfectly when assembled. Plus a wonderful mix of ancient and modern tools and techniques.
I am now disappearing into a rabbit hole of all the rest of his videos.
Closest thing I ever saw to this was in New Philadelphia, OH, at the Warther’s Train Museum. The founder was a carver of incredible skill, and carved many train replicas out of exotic woods, like ebony and rosewood. One of his schticks was to make a pair of wooden pliers from 1 piece of basswood in about 30s with half a dozen quick knife strokes.
