Yeah, the problem is the actual audience reading it doesn’t recognize it as satire, and therefore it doesn’t work as satire - it’s not exposing or attacking illogic or vice in its readers. The thing being exposed/attacked, if anything, is that Trump supporters are credulous idiots, but that’s not being done by the text, but by factual reporting that Trump supporters are credulous idiots. I keep saying that Trump’s candidacy destroys satire, but this is ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Trump is repeating fake news to the point where legitimate news organizations end up simply reporting his utterances without debunking them, with their passive repetition seen as confirmation. It’s madness.

And he’s talked about registering and tracking Muslims on multiple occasions. So yeah, this fake news just becomes noise at best.

Ahh yes. Lincoln penned it just before deplaning Air Force 1. I call Swift-boating shenanigans!

also, CWAA
ETA: also, Emancipation in 1860? Tennis shoes? I’m thinking you were hoping someone would come along and pedantify this bad boy. Glad to help…

That quote is so great. One version is popularly attributed to Mark Twain in 1919, and another variation to him in 1921. (He died in 1910.) There’s thousands of variants spanning back at least 300 years, with many of those written by famous people, yet it’s still an opportunity for endless (mis-) attributions, which is so wonderfully meta.
